Import contacts and send to a list

The dashboard keeps your own contacts, separate from the phone's address book, so you can send one message to many people without writing code.

Import contacts

  1. Open Contacts and click Import CSV.
  2. Pick a CSV file whose first row names the columns. It needs a phone column (phone, number, nomor or whatsapp); a name column (name or nama) is optional, and every other column becomes an attribute of the contact.
  3. Choose a list to put everyone in, and the country code for local numbers: with 62, 0812… becomes +62812….

Commas and semicolons both work, so a file saved from Excel is fine. Files can be up to 5 MB and 50,000 rows. A number that is already in your contacts is updated: a new name replaces the old one and attributes are added. The result lists the rows that were skipped and why.

You can also add people one by one with Add contact, and group them under Lists.

Send a broadcast

  1. Open Broadcasts and click New broadcast.
  2. Choose who it is from: one of your numbers, or Rotation to spread the messages over your numbers that have Rotation turned on. See sender rotation.
  3. Choose who it goes to: a list, or phone numbers typed one per line.
  4. Write the message. {{name}} becomes the contact's name and {{attributes.amount}} their amount attribute, so each person gets their own figures. The preview shows the message as the first contact will see it. You can attach an image, a video or a document.
  5. Click Send and confirm.

Each number sends at a person's pace, a message every few seconds, so a list of a thousand takes about an hour per number. The broadcast's page shows how many messages are waiting, sent, delivered, read, failed or skipped, and the status for each person. Cancel broadcast stops it: nobody else gets it, and messages already sent stay sent.

Who is skipped

  • People who opted out. Someone who replies STOP, BERHENTI or UNSUBSCRIBE to any of your numbers is marked Opted out in Contacts, and no number sends to them again, from the dashboard or the API. You can also mark someone yourself, and allow them again later.
  • People who reached the daily limit, when sending with rotation (5 messages per person per day unless an owner changed it in Settings → Sending).

Deleting an opted-out contact forgets that they opted out, so keep the contact instead.

Send responsibly

Send only to people who know you and expect to hear from you. A broadcast to people who never talked to you is the quickest way to get your numbers banned; see Keep a number safe from bans and our Acceptable Use Policy.
